I don't have to hold the world up

My maternal grandad was a very important person in my life. When I was a child, he would take my brother and me out for adventures in his Mini car - affectionately known as "The Puddle Jumper", because Minis are so low to the road. We would whizz around country lanes around Winchester, in Hampshire (within speed limits, as Grandad was a policeman) but because the car felt only knee-high to a grasshopper, it felt like joy, two kids and a grandad, laughing and jokily yelling to ourselves "Move over" as we encountered other cars. The photo above is one of my favourites - of my Grandad holding onto me on my Christening Day.

Grandad got me interested in history and nature, and in Autumn is when I feel closest to him because of our childhood walks - he died just before my 2nd marriage 15 years ago, but he met my future husband and approved (unlike the first one, but then if it hadn't been for the first, my life would not have led to my second and most beautiful hubby, and our son, but that's another story :)). I believe my Grandad is my Guardian Angel - a whisperer of truths, a guiding hand in my life and that of my son's too. Grandad saw me as a person, not just as his granddaughter, and I have often sought that acknowledgement elsewhere - holding up the world for others to lighten their load, but taking on too much myself, just to be seen. Again I am enough and I enjoy helping others but not to the deteriment of me.

Soul Restoration Book Cover

Yes, I am a glutton for punishment, in case you are wondering. I like to be busy, to have projects on the go and this is the cover of a book of truths I'm creating on an online course offered by the Brave Girls Club, called Soul Restoration http://bravegirlsclub.com/onlineclasses.html As part of the course I received the denim book cover and the green buttons and felt flower. The yellow "under construction" tape I already had and seemed appropriate. The labels are from the online supplies for the course.

Some of the tasks on this 6 week course I may not share as it is a personal journey of truth, but I'll share what I'm able to. Here's to finding who I am.

Love Julie x

As promised - my interview link

I'm not usually so organised or so brave to be first for most things, but as I had my gallbladder removed last week, I wasn't sure when I would be able to answer questions, and I wanted to do the interview as it's something I wouldn't have ordinarily done before now. But in the spirit of letting go... deep breath and stepping out of the shadows... :)

Art Journal Caravan 2010 Week 1 - One Word

For some time I've been scrapbooking and having been using digital elements in my scrapbook pages as well as physical embellishments. My last project was a Thank you Album for Brian Kennedy, but I have had several other projects on the go - an small scrapbook album called "The Game of Life" and a scrapped photo album. However this year-long Art Journalling project grabbed my eye.

Week 1's instructions are to find "One Word" to focus on, "a word that inspires all your goals" and then produce a journal/scrapbook layout inspired by the word. I was in the middle of a quandary on choosing my word when my computer crashed off the internet. My theme was to be "Letting Go" but that's 2 words, so I've now settled on an related word "Freedom". Now I'll have to put my thinking cap on for design.

Best wishes, Julie x
